We are getting close to peak summer heat in Hong Kong – plus you never know when the heavens will open and rain will pour down. If that has you thinking of indoor entertainment, we have you covered.

1. Twisters

Twenty-eight years after the Hollywood blockbuster Twister introduced the world to the dangerous pursuit of tornado chasing, this belated remake/sequel treats us to another mindless spectacle of brilliant visual effects all over again.

While the direction of Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) ensures there is at least a hint of believable human drama in the proceedings, it is rising stars Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) who keep things watchable in the idle moments – when luckless bystanders aren’t getting whirled away by the storms. Twisters is in cinemas now.

2. Love Letter

Japanese writer-director Shunji Iwai’s 1995 feature debut remains one of his very best films to date and this re-release represents an all-too-rare opportunity to catch this classic romance on the big screen.

A big hit across Asia when it was first released, Love Letter tells the bittersweet story of how Miho Nakayama’s bereaved protagonist sends a letter to her fiancé’s address two years after his death – only to receive a surprise reply that kicks off a series of emotional reveals at both ends of the correspondence.

Love Letter opens in cinemas today.

3. Skywalkers: A Love Story

An unusual blend of sporting event and romance, this Netflix documentary directed by award-winning filmmaker Jeff Zimbalist follows a young Russian couple, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, as they illegally scale tall buildings around the world and snap stunning photos there as their prizes.
