The French president’s wife, Brigitte Macron, will make her Netflix debut playing herself in the hit series Emily in Paris.
Fashion magazine Elle revealed the first lady’s cameo on September 10, ahead of the release of new episodes on September 12, saying she appears in her own clothes.
“No particular instructions [were] given to her”, according to the magazine. Netflix confirmed Macron’s appearance in the series, which has become known for its characters’ fashion.
“The idea of the cameo came to us when [series creator] Darren Star and I met [Macron] at [her and her husband Emmanuel’s official residence] Elysee Palace in December 2022,” the show’s star, Lily Collins, says.

“She is a big fan of the show and took the mention of her in season 1 with great humour. This scene in season 4 is a wink, and shooting with her was both an honour and a real joy.”

Since debuting in 2020, Emily in Paris has attracted audiences and made headlines. It has been loved and hated.
The show has been criticised in France in particular for its stereotypical, fantastical portrayal of life in the City of Light, with beret-wearing characters living a bon-vivant lifestyle and sanitised, Instagrammable scenes of the capital.
