‘I’ve worked really hard’: Mariah Carey on her new album, Here For It All
Her first studio album since 2018’s Caution, Here For It All comes after difficult times the singer has experienced in the last few years

It is a sunny day in London. From the window of a sprawling hotel suite, there is a stunning view of the River Thames, the Golden Jubilee Bridges and the London Eye.
But when Mariah Carey enters the room in a pair of elegant silk pyjamas, the first thing she does is ask for the curtains to be drawn.
The singer had planned to go shopping, as she openly admits. However, her manager explains that there was a scheduling mix-up. Carey sighs briefly, then greets everyone warmly and settles onto a luxurious sofa to talk about her new album, Here For It All.
This is her first studio album since 2018’s Caution and it has been a long time coming, the 56-year-old admits.
“It’s something that I’ve worked really hard on. In order to get through it all, it’s just like I’ve written a bunch of songs, and now they’re going to be my brand new album.”

When Carey talks about getting “through it all”, she is referring to the difficult times in her life. Although she does not explicitly name them, it is clear what personal setbacks she means.
