Hong Kong’s 2016 City Challenge – join the fun and run for good cause
Money raised goes to underprivileged children in Hong Kong and Nepal
The fourth City Challenge, a charity scavenger hunt requiring speed, wits, navigational skills and good knowledge of Hong Kong, will take runners on a journey of discovery through Eastern district this year.
The fun run, hosted by the Child Welfare Scheme, will take place on Saturday, March 12.
About 200 people in 45 teams are expected to participate in the event, raising funds through registration fees and sponsorship that will go towards providing an education for underprivileged children in Hong Kong and Nepal.
“It’s an afternoon of fun, exploring Hong Kong’s hidden gems and history and culture,” Rai says.
“For a trivia challenge, for example, we could direct them to City Garden, where they would be asked what used to be on the site before the hotel was built.
“For the photo challenge, we could ask teams to take a picture of themselves posing in front of a church or historic building.”
Teams can sign up in one of three categories. The registration fee for corporate teams is HK$4,000, while general teams pay HK$2,000. It costs HK$1,000 for a student/family team to join.
“Besides registration fees, corporate teams also try to raise sponsorship money from colleagues and friends,” Rai says.
The race starts at 2pm in Moreton Terrace Temporary Playground in Causeway Bay and ends at Pizza Express in Taikoo Shing. Prizewinners will include the fastest teams in each category, the best dressed team, and the team that raises the most sponsorship money.
This year’s event is being co-organised by the Child Welfare Scheme and Gurkha Cemeteries Trust.
Amod Rai, secretary of the trust, says funds raised will help underprivileged children in Nepal go to school, and help with scholarships for students in Hong Kong who are undertaking online educational programmes.
