Open University students collect 300 scholarships Scholarships worth HK$6.43 million have been awarded to nearly 300 students at the Open University of Hong Kong. The scholarships are part of the government's Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund. Set up in 2012, the awards cover five categories: outstanding performance, best progress, talent development, the Reaching Out Award and Endeavour Scholarship. Third-year student in business administration Lau Yuen-keung won a scholarship in the talent development category for taking the Hong Kong Boxing Association's open title in the 52kg class. Students pursuing full-time, self-financed sub-degrees or bachelor's degrees are eligible to apply. Sign up for HKU's first massive open online course Registration has begun for the first massive open online course offered at the University of Hong Kong. The course, epidemics, will be taught by nine academics, including Professor Gabriel Leung, dean of the university's medical school. The online course is offered in collaboration with edX, a non-profit online education network founded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. Extra financial support for business students at Lingnan Lingnan University is offering scholarships to assist risk and insurance management majors pay tuition and hostel fees. Final year students who have successfully applied to the master of science in insurance at City University London can claim up to HK$450,000 from the AR Charitable Foundation Scholarship Scheme.
