Microsoft invests in new Hong Kong Polytechnic University computing lab

Microsoft is backing a new PolyU-Microsoft Smart Computing Laboratory at Polytechnic University by investing HK$10 million in software, cloud and devices support. The lab will support applied research and teaching as well as learning activities including work-integrated workshops. Students will be offered a chance to apply for internships at Microsoft's headquarters in Seattle.

An exhibition featuring Christmas cards designed by local school students is showing at the Fringe Club in Central until December 31.

It features the four winning entries along with 40 other selected entries in the My Australian Christmas Card Competition organised by the Australian consulate-general, aimed at giving budding designers a chance to start a cultural exploration of how Christmas is celebrated during an Australian summer. The designs range from images reflecting indigenous Australian art to funky and festive styles. Almost 800 entries were received from 66 schools.

A US$13 million gift from the Neubauer Family Foundation to the University of Chicago has created new scholarships for international students, with the goal of enriching the university's academic, cultural and social diversity.
