Melania Trump rocks US$60k Hermès Birkin bag during Downing Street visit

Trump paired her ultra expensive black crocodile skin bag with a Celine trench coat, which she had worn at another event in 2018

She is accompanying her husband on a three-day state visit to the UK

For a welcome reception at 10 Downing Street with outgoing British Prime Minister Theresa May, United States first lady Melania Trump accessorised her Celine trench coat, which she had worn at another event in 2018, with an ultra expensive Hermès Birkin bag in black crocodile.

A similar bag from Hermès sold for a world record of US$208,000 at a Christie’s auction in Hong Kong last week. Trump’s version, which she carried on June 4, is not a limited-edition model so its price tag is more likely to be about US$63,000.

While politicians and their spouses are often careful when choosing the brands they wear in public for fear of appearing out of touch, Trump has embraced luxury labels wholeheartedly. She famously wore a US$51,500 Dolce & Gabbana coat in Sicily in 2017 and for the three-day state visit to the UK this week, she has worn outfits from Givenchy, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana.

Trump has a vast collection of Hermès Birkin bags, including more “affordable” styles in regular leather, whose starting price is US$12,000.
