Music legend Lenny Kravitz has just published a tell-all book, Let Love Rule , which covers the first 25 years of his life, up to the release of his first album, also named Let Love Rule , in 1989. In the memoir, the 56-year-old writes about growing up a biracial child up in New York, his love for the Jackson Five, and his early days as a young musician finding his voice. The man behind chart-topping hits such as American Woman , Fly Away and I Belong To You , Kravitz is as known for his songs as he is for his style sense and chiselled physique, which he recently showed off on the cover of magazine Men’s Health , looking even better than his younger self. Never afraid to be daring with his wardrobe choices, Kravitz, who just this year starred in fashion and fragrance campaigns for French label Saint Laurent, has lost none of his style mojo. Here are some of the most remarkable outfits the singer has worn down the years. Black leather jackets are one of Kravitz’s closet staples (below). In a portrait shot in 2010, he pairs one with a slogan T-shirt printed with the words “Music Saved My Life”. Not every man can pull off an unbuttoned shirt with the nonchalance of Kravitz, who often accessorises his skin-baring tops with tight pants and tons of cool jewellery, like in this 2001 photo (below). Even when he attends formal events, such as a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee in New York in 2000, Kravitz does not tone down the glamour, looking like the ultimate rock star in this silk jacquard shirt paired with jeans (below). On stage next to soul legend James Brown at the 2000 VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards in New York, Kravitz wears a pair of skin-tight ostrich leather pants with his signature printed shirt and leather jacket, and always-present sunglasses (below). When you’re blessed with Kravitz’s striking good looks, even a simple tank top paired with jeans can look stage worthy. For a 1998 live duet with Iggy Pop, he matched his outfit with that of his fellow rock star (below). Is this Kravitz’s first, and only, fashion faux pas? Posing with Britney Spears at an MTV event in 2000, the singer was photographed in a tasselled poncho-like kaftan with embroideries that looked a bit all over the place (below). Kravitz went “off script” for his role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), and showed a more elegant side as Cinna, his character, clad in an all-black tailored outfit, which is not something you’d expect the normally adventurous singer to wear out and about but which suits him just fine. Kravitz has always had a thing for fringes, and if there’s someone who can make a Western-style outfit cool, it’s him. Kravitz looks nonchalant in head-to-toe leather and suede at an event in Hollywood in November 2019 (below). For his red-carpet appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in August 2019, Kravitz went full 1970s , sporting a sleeveless denim vest in a faded wash worn without a shirt underneath, paired with matching jeans (below). At the Saint Laurent autumn/winter 2020 show in Paris in March, 2020, his most recent public appearance, Kravitz showed up in one of the French brand’s chic suits and took as his date his equally stylish, and beautiful, daughter Zoe (below).
