Friends Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss and Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima on the Versace catwalk felt like a look back to that famous show at the beginning of the 1990s that launched the supermodel phenomena with Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington. George Michael might not have been on the soundtrack this time, but the skirts were still micro-short.

And the Versace baroque scarf print shirts that the original supermodels wore, have been revamped in graphic black prints on pastel colours and taken centre stage in Donatella Versace’s new autumn collection.

Versace demonstrated how far she has taken the brand since the days of her late brother, Gianni, by adding a more sporty urban vibe to the aesthetic, which was previously known for its sexy va-va voom looks, especially when Cindy and Naomi were on the catwalk.

This collection follows hot on the heels of the athletic couture that Versace showed in January and immediately headed off to Hollywood for this weekend’s Oscars, but this time with multi-zippered detailing on jackets and coats to deconstructed garments and range of ski pants, cropped jackets, zip ribbed knits, sports stripe detailing and rubberised finishes.

The collection then moved to a series of barely-there party dresses in a glacier shard print, a modern abstract look with jagged strips of neon that looked just as compelling.
