The Peninsula Hong Kong offers special edition Goyard travel set
Set comes in landmark hotel’s signature green, can be personalised and is available until the end of June
For the month of June, Goyard fans will have a chance to order the special edition Peninsula travel set in the shade of Peninsula green inspired by the hotel’s Rolls-Royce fleet that is only available at the boutique in the hotel.
A spokesman for Maison Goyard says the French luxury brand seldom does limited editions, but was keen on collaborating with The Peninsula Hong Kong in a a project that has been two years in the making.
“It’s a good match for the brand, creating some exclusivity. After June, we won’t be taking any more orders for the travel set. There will only be a few lucky owners to own these collectables,” he says.
The travel set features the Bourget wheeled suitcase. The luggage is made up of more than 100 parts the orders taken in June will be ready by Christmas.
While you’re ordering this exclusive product, why not personalise it too? Goyard’s in-house painter based in Hong Kong will come to the hotel boutique for a week to demonstrate how the owners’ initials are painted on.
Maison Goyard dates back to around 1792, when it was known as the House of Martin. It specialised in box-making, trunk-making and packing. In 1852, an apprentice Francois Goyard took over and the family continued the tradition until 1998 when the company was bought by Jean-Michel Signoles.
Many famous people have used Goyard items, including Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso, the Rockefellers, Edith Piaf and Marilyn Monroe, whose trunks were white and numbered.
The Goyard spokesman says Signoles is actively involved in product creation and store design, and has a passion for vintage items; as a result, “new” items that are produced are called “re-editions”.
“For example, the Steamer bag was previously used for dirty laundry, now it’s used for something else, but it’s the same design,” he says.
The last time Goyard did a limited-edition product was over 10 years ago with a pink handbag. “We still have people coming into our shop asking for the pink bag,” he says.
The Peninsula Hong Kong’s collaboration with Goyard is part of the “Legendary Artisans” at The Peninsula Arcade in June. The month-long event includes a Tiffany-themed afternoon tea set and a Louis Vuitton trunk exhibition with a hot-stamping service in the store. Ralph Lauren will showcase its “Soft Ricky” handbag, and The Peninsula Boutique will present a limited edition collection of Toucan pralines in sea salt, caramel and yuzu.
