Kate Middleton steals the show on Baftas red carpet, but the stars shine too in some shimmery numbers

Hollywood musical La La Land picked up five British Bafta movie awards on Sunday, at a glitzy London ceremony charged with filmmakers’ political messages.

The fashion stakes were also high on the red carpet.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) award for leading actress went to Emma Stone, who plays an aspiring actress in La La Land and took on a political tone in her acceptance speech.

Stone impressed in a smoky grey organza Chanel haute couture gown embroidered with “mirror shards” .

Penelope Cruz shimmered in Versace, as did Michelle Williams in an above-the-knee embellished number by Louis Vuitton.

Amy Adams impressed in a strapless emerald dress by Tom Ford, while Viola Davis wore a plunging strapless bright blue gown by Jenny Packham.
