Taschen brings double happiness to Hong Kong
Those pining for a tactile bookshop experience can jump for joy. Taschen, the undisputed king of classy coffee table books, is opening two retail pop-up spaces in the city just in time for festive shopping.
Ten coffee-table books for fashion fans – great for Christmas gifts
From November 20 to December 15, Taschen will open pop-ups at The Chamber, a private room in Duddell’s (Level 3, Shanghai Tang Mansion, 1 Duddell St, Central), and at Potato Head Hong Kong’s Canaan boutique and gallery (100 Third St, Sai Ying Pun). Bookworms can find a range of titles spanning fashion (we’re loving photographer Mario Testino’s latest book, Sir) architecture, design, photography, pop culture and travel.
Get a taste for Ferragamo
Who doesn’t love an indulgent afternoon tea? Italian restaurant Tosca has teamed up with Italian style master Salvatore Ferragamo to dish up some beautifully crafted treats. Chef Pino Lavarra of Tosca has created fashion-inspired afternoon tea delights – five savoury and six desserts. Try passion fruit biscuits with cream and fruit, strawberry panna cotta and raspberry jelly, and jasmine cake, blackberry jelly and vanilla cream coated with dark chocolate … OK, we’ll stop there.
Tosca, Level 102, The Ritz-Carlton. tel: 2263 2270. Afternoon tea time: 3.30pm-5.30pm. November 18, 25, December 2, 9. Price: HK$698 plus 10 per cent per person.
Hula hops offline to host pop-up in SoHo
Online marketplace Hula will hold a pop-up at The Living Room, Kong Art Space in SoHo, from November 28 to December 3. Hula offers curated pre-owned designer womenswear for up to 95 per cent off the retail price. Sellers are by invitation only.
Upstairs (in The Living Room) will initially host private appointments (don’t stress, it opens to the public on the last two days), while the ground floor stages a photography exhibition by art director and sustainable-fashion advocate Gloria Yu titled “Choose Well”. The works pay homage to the phrase “Buy less, choose well, make it last”, coined by designer Vivienne Westwood.
