Tommy Hilfiger scored a touchdown with a football-themed show at New York fashion week. Models walked on a  “catwalk” that was in fact an American football pitch, as the brand debuted its spectacular sportswear collection while celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Checks take on a more grungy look at 3.1 Phillip Lim, especially with those dark red lips. Lim's layering with leathers, silky asymmetrical skirts and oxblood colour blocks made for an urban yet sensual winter wardrobe. Hong Kong native Vivienne Tam meanwhile sent wearable tulip skirts down the runway. High-neck Victorian collars on tops and dramatic long gowns were ultra-romantic, with a favourite being a sexy, floral embroidered black mesh gown.

Victoria Beckham’s collection for autumn/winter 2015 was given a sexy twist, falling closer to the body than usual. Beckham also used slits and cutouts to bare a little more skin that one normally sees in winter fashion.

Diane von Furstenberg impressed with a collection that ran the gamut from pinstripe separates and power suits to evening dresses with peekaboo black lace bodices, while Thai-born, Nebraska-raised designer Thakoon Panichgul moved decisively into a second decade in fashion by unveiling a vibrant, bohemian collection inspired by Oscar Wilde.

Reality star Kim Kardashian, rapper husband Kanye West and their toddler daughter North West were guests of honour at Alexander Wang’s heavy-metal-meets-gothic grunge show, while Chinese designer Ran Fan made her debut with feminine  pastels.
