Oscar stars turn out for Tom Ford’s first Los Angeles show
Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson, Naomi Campbell, Beyonce and Jay-Z among those in attendance at designer's Milk Studio in Hollywood
Hollywood turned out to watch models power down the runway wearing Tom Ford in the designer’s first Los Angeles show, which coincided with Oscars weekend.
Julianne Moore, who in 2009 starred in A Single Man, Ford’s first stab at filmmaking, as well as Reese Witherspoon, were among the A-listers. Both women were nominated for best actress at this year’s Academy Awards, with Moore winning for Still Alice. “His fashion is fun and allows a lot of self expression,” Moore said.
Gwyneth Paltrow wore a black mini-dress, Amy Adams a red trouser suit; Scarlett Johansson sported short hair and a golden mini-dress, and Jennifer Lopez applauded the designer at Hollywood’s Milk Studio.
From the music world Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Rita Ora, Robbie Williams, and Elton John were in the front row, as was Miley Cyrus in a revealing black gown suggestive of lingerie.
“He’s a man of incredible style. His women are elegant and incredibly sexy,” said David Furnish, accompanying his husband Elton John.
Ford’s bohemian-chic autumn-winter 2015 collection was inspired by Santa Fe, New Mexico and the state as a whole, located in the western US where Ford grew up.
Fringes, boots, fur and leopard print went alongside patchwork jeans and big, black braided necklaces with large stones.
A pioneer of porn-chic in the 1990s when he was at the helm of Gucci, Ford’s collection flaunted deep necklines and bare backs, as well as sequined, tight gowns in popping colours and ochres. The collection was given a standing ovation.
Ford, whose shows usually run in London, decided to present in Los Angeles as stars and media from across the globe descended on the city for the Oscars. For the moment, Ford plans to resume with London Fashion Week in September.
