Fifth Beijing Film Festival: the best dressed

Fashion editor Jing Zhang picks out the best red carpet looks

China's biggest screen stars and a league of international cinema VIPs came out to celebrate the 5th Beijing Film Festival in the Chinese captial, with festivities coming to a close on the 23rd April.

From the ever chic Zhou Xun in an angelic white pantsuit, Hong Kong actress Miriam Yeung in slinky scarlet, to singer Kelly Chen in a black floral embroidered Dolce & Gabbana gown - Chinese stars are showing modern, confident styles on the red carpet.

There was no shortage of classic screen siren looks though, take actress Zeng Li - a vision in figure-hugging ruby red with a mermaid train, or actress Bai Baihe's strapless, full skirted number.

Actress Joe Chen's loose, flowing metallic appliqué dress had a refreshing bohemian style, whereas actress Ni Ni's was a picture of elegance in her beaded coral off-the-shoulder gown. Indian actress and producer Anushka Sharma did a chic, modern take on the sari.

And whilst we wouldn't say this was in the best dressed list, but certainly a notable outift that perhaps raised the most eyebrows for mainland viewers was Lan Yan's skin tight silver and sheer panelled gown (no underwear allowed!) giving viewers a good eyefull.

It wasn't just the women who impressed on the red carpet. Actor Chang Chen looked dashing in this tux, shades and frilled white shirt, whilst actor Peter Ho pulled off a fitted navy suit and white brogues, his co-stars, actress Chang Chun-ning was wearing a stylish halter print dress, and dog Lira sported a fur coat.
