Eyebar is the bar and lounge area of the Nanhai No1 contemporary Chinese restaurant, and shares its nautical theme.

Named after the famous sunken Song dynasty ship discovered in 1987, the decor of the restaurant is supposedly a tribute to Admiral Zheng He. His voyages predate the cocktail age by more than 400 years, so it makes sense that the theme of the menu - historic South China Sea trade - does not extend to the cocktail list.

Eyebar's biggest selling point, as can easily be deduced from the name, is its dramatic 180-degree view of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong Island and the harbour - either through the bottles behind the bar, or the unobstructed view from the outdoor terrace.

The terrace, of course, attracts its share of smokers, but if you don't mind a little tobacco - or all the other pollution suspended in Hong Kong's urban air - it's a splendid area to enjoy with a drink, especially now that the weather is pleasanter.

The cocktail list, which is relatively short, consists mostly of familiar formulae - martinis, margaritas and daiquiris - but bar manager Wing Chiu is keen to stress that the expertise of his team of bartenders is not limited to the drinks listed. You name the cocktail, and they will be happy to make it for you if they possibly can.
