Five restaurants with much to recommend in Western district

From Chinese hotpot to Japanese skewers, pancakes, Mexican fare and Italian comfort food, there's something for everyone in the district's rapidly growing culinary scene.

Alongside traditional Chinese restaurants, new ventures offering a variety of cuisines have opened in Western.

From Sai Ying Pun to Kennedy Town, the district has seen a raft of new restaurant openings. We've reviewed five places recently, and all have much to recommend. Ina Hotpot by Inaguku - robust Chinese-style fare

Handmade beef balls weren't what we expected ... these were ... fluffy, and seasoned with dried tangerine peel.

Neighborhood - comforting French-Italian fare

We couldn't fault the handmade pasta; the tagliolini was eggy and al dente. The sea urchin spaghetti also delighted my Italian guest

Chino - refreshing blend of Mexican and Japanese fare

White fish ceviche with yuzu lime and cashews wasn't cured for long ... but it was bright and refreshing.

Shiba, Kennedy Town - Japanese skewers

We especially liked the miso pork ribs — the .. meat was fatty, rich and slightly sweet ... Shiso minced chicken was soft and moist
