Five newish restaurants in fast-gentrifying Kennedy Town

Maybe it's the MTR effect, but there are so many new dining options in K-Town it's hard to keep up

Restaurants are popping up all over Kennedy Town, adding more culinary options to this fast-becoming hip neighbourhood. Here are five of the latest openings.

Comptoir.

One of the newest kids on the block is Comptoir, opened by the group behind Pastis and FAB. Located on Forbes Street, Comptoir serves French wines with Mediterranean tapas. The cosy spot is perfect for a quick bite on the way home, or a get-together with friends.

42 Forbes Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 2453 9873. Closed Mondays.

Cali-Mex.

For your Tex-Mex fix of burritos, tacos, quesadillas and nachos, look no further than Cali-Mex. The chain is expanding all the way west to K-Town, where you can take out or eat in at a relatively large dining space.

70 Catchick Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 2872 9500

Catch on Catchick.

Catch on Catchick isn’t new, but it has just expanded to include an extra dining space next door. Now diners don’t have to be crammed into one space, or wait outside for a table to enjoy its seafood-themed menu featuring oysters, fish and chips, and a soft-shell crab burger.

93 Catchick Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 2855 1289

Seafood Kitchen opened a few months ago.

The Seafood Kitchen opened a few months ago and many like the concept – fresh seafood, like abalone, crab and oysters, clams, prawns and sea whelk, in steel steamers that are placed on top of a boiling pot of stock. Diners eat their way down the steamers, and if they still have more room in their stomach, can have traditional hot pot with thin slices of meat, vegetables and noodles.

Shop E & F, 18 Catchick Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 2556 8555

Traditional Cantonese siu mei or roast meat shop Wah Fung opened for business in 1941. It recently opened up in Kennedy Town. Come here for a family-style meal of char siu, roast goose or roast pigeon.

165-171 Belcher’s Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 2555 3238
