Favourite Hong Kong restaurants of eco-campaigners Lisa Christensen and Nissa Marion

Pair favour ethical, vegetarian and sustainable dining, with some naughty cakes to finish

We are so happy that more and more restaurants in Hong Kong are catering to the ever-increasing number of health- and eco-conscious citizens of our fabulous and food-loving city! Here are our healthy (and naughty) picks.

Linguini Fini

Our favourite places to take clients for lunch are Linguini Fini (49 Elgin Street, Central, tel 2387 6338) and Posto Pubblico (28 Elgin Street, Central, tel: 2577 7160), owned by the visionary restaurateur Todd Darling.

It’s close to our office, and they serve organic, locally-grown produce from their own farms. They’re on a path to zero waste, as well – you won’t see any plastic straws here! – and they even have an in-house composter.

When grabbing a quick lunch to-go, there’s no place better than Mana! Fast Slow Food (92 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2851 1611) and Mana! Raw (7 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2259 5125), by our good friend Bobsy, one of the true pioneers of the compassionate eating scene in Hong Kong. Their vegetarian offerings are all scrumptious and customisable, and served with uncompromising concern for environmental impact: eco-friendly packaging, recycling and food waste management are core to their zero waste business model.

A great place to enjoy a long lunch or dinner with a friend is Grassroots Pantry (108 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, tel: 2873 3353). Having outgrown their original Sai Ying Pun premises, they’ve just opened a huge, hip eatery on Hollywood Road. It’s still true to its roots, using organic, unprocessed, raw, vegan, and local ingredients in their delicious dishes.

When we have friends in from out of town, a fun little place to take them is Lock Cha Tea House in Hong Kong Park (The K.S. Lo Gallery, Hong Kong Park, Admiralty, tel: 2801 7177)! It’s quaint and lovely, in as natural a setting as you’ll get in the heart of the business district, and they offer all-vegan dim sum plus an astonishing array of teas. You can even take a workshop in traditional tea, which is a fun distraction for locals or visitors!

Naughty treats at Sevva.

And when we’re craving a sweet treat, and something cool to drink, there’s simply no where else but Sevva (25/F Prince’s Building, 10 Chater Road, Central,  tel: 2537 1388). What do you get when you combine a selection of exquisite Ms B’s cakes, an award-winning mixologist from New York, great music and quite possibly the best view in HK after a long week of hard work with you best friend? Pure, divine, happy indulgence.
