At Tiger Curry & Café in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, diners are greeted by the sight of a fierce-looking tiger head peering out of a coffee cup. The place is a slightly more casual take on the already-casual original Tiger Curry in Causeway Bay, and diners can enjoy Japanese-style curry in cosy and quiet surroundings. Our favourite dish is white tiger udon (HK$119), which is served only at this branch. We ordered it without the cream potato sauce (so were charged HK$21 less). The chewy udon absorbed the piquant, savoury curry, and the onsen egg tempered the mild spiciness of the dish. Tiger Curry rice with golden Kurobuta pork chop (HK$113) was another favourite. The thickly sliced pork with its well-fried crust stayed crisp even after being smothered with sweet Japanese curry. It was served over rice with a helping of tart preserved vegetables which whetted the appetite. We also ordered two starters and one salad. Mentaiko mac and cheese (HK$52) was crisp, oozy and cheesy. Tiger wings (HK$48), which had a curry dressing with a mustard kick, weren’t anything special, while the Tiger Salad (HK$72) – roast chicken, lettuce and mustard-curry sauce – was overpriced. Tiger cheesecake (HK$35) with chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries was a good dish to share after a filling meal.
