Seafood, Spanish specials and a sake dinner: what’s hot at Hong Kong’s restaurants
Crab is on the menu on both sides of the harbour, you can pig out on paella and Iberico pork, and there’s as much sake as you can swallow for HK$350
The Regal Kowloon in Tsim Sha Tsui is featuring lobster and crab on the dinner buffet at Cafe Allegro until the end of November. The selection includes chilled Boston lobster; spicy sauteed crab with crisp fried garlic; steamed blue crab and rice in lotus leaf; baked crab meat with seafood; and mango and snow crab salad. The dinner buffet is HK$528 plus 10 per cent (HK$348 for children) Monday to Thursday and HK$588 plus 10 per cent (HK$378 for children) Friday to Sunday. Bookings: 2313 8718.
Across the harbour at the Regal Hongkong in Tsim Sha Tsui, Cafe Rivoli is serving Spanish dishes on the dinner buffet until December 6. Guests can taste dishes of Spanish Iberico ham; roast suckling pig; seafood paella; and swordfish in sofrito sauce. The dinner buffet is HK$518 plus 10 per cent (HK$318 for children) Monday to Thursday and HK$548 plus 10 per cent (HK$348 for children) Friday to Sunday. Bookings: 2837 1772.
Also featuring Spanish dishes is the Lobby Lounge at the InterContinental in Tsim Sha Tsui. Guest chef Luis Rivas Gonzalez of La Bodega del Riojano in Spain is making an a la carte selection that includes octopus with potato in sweet paprika sauce; bacalao with olive oil and minced garlic; and secreto Iberico pork with cabbage and potato. Sake Bar Ginn in Lan Kwai Fong is having a meet-the-brewer event on November 27. Three sake brewers – Kensuke Shichida from Tenzan Brewery (which produces Shichida), Kazuhiko Sakurai from Asahi (producer of Dassai) and Michiko Tanaka from Rihaku Brewery will be on hand to talk about their products. Kaetsu at the Grand Hyatt in Wan Chai is featuring crab dishes until the end of November. The selection includes crab meat with chirashi rice; steamed Kyushu Sanin zuwai crab with simmered Hokkaido clam; and scallop and seasonal vegetables with zuwai crab meat sauce. Bookings: 2584 7722.
Senzuru at the Harbour Plaza Metropolis has Kagoshima Satsuma beef on the menu until the end of November. The a la carte selection includes Kagoshima satsuma beef sashimi; teppanyaki Kagoshima Satsuma rib-eye steak; and teppanyaki Kagoshima Satsuma beef tenderloin. Bookings: 3160 6898.
