More truffle treats to tempt Hong Kong diners, and a selection of wine dinners
Catch white truffles while you can, in Italian and Chinese dishes
In addition to the restaurants mentioned in last week’s events round-up, there are a few more places featuring white truffles for a limited time. At l’Altro in Central, they’re used in dishes such as house-made tagliolini with butter and white truffles; risotto with white truffles; veal chop Milanese with mashed potato and white truffles; spaghetti carbonara with white truffles; and hazelnut souffle with milk gelato and white truffles. At Lai Bun Fu, the seasonal fungus is being served in Chinese dishes that include white truffles with fresh crab meat stir-fried with egg white and milk; and fried rice with conpoy, egg white and white truffles. Bookings: 2564 3868.
At Divino Patio in Wan Chai, white truffles will be served at a special Beni di Batasiolo wine dinner on December 12. The five-course dinner is HK$990 plus 10 per cent and includes Acquerello carnaroli risotto with Franciacorta brut and tuber magnatum petals paired with the winery’s Barbaresco DOCG 2012; and tuma dla Paja cheese with white truffle honey served with the Barolo DOCG 2011. Assaggio in Wan Chai will have a dinner on December 8 featuring wines from Tuscany and Piedmont. The dinner is HK$638 plus 10 per cent and includes traditional Tuscan soup with pasta, chickpeas and bacon served with the Fattoria di Felsina Chianti Classico Berardenga DOCG Tuscany 2012 and Damilano Barolo Liste DOCG Piemonte 2008; and herb butter-glazed lamb chops with the Castello del Terriccio Red IGT Toscana 2005 and Nittardi Ad Astra IGT 2012. And in the IFC, the French Window is having a wine dinner on December 9 featuring J. Lassalle champagnes. On the menu are dishes of pan-seared foie gras with pear and apricot chutney served with the J. Lassalle Angeline 2005; while the cheese course is paired with the J. Lassalle Blanc de Blancs 1994. Across the harbour, Elite Dining in Tsim Sha Tsui will have a Burgundy premier cru dinner on December 15 - but it’s a blind tasting, with the identify of the wines being revealed after the meal. The dinner is HK$850 plus 10 per cent and includes steamed grouper fillet with tofu and XO chilli sauce; sauteed minced pigeon with pine nuts in lettuce leaf; and stir-fried beef spare ribs with black pepper sauce. And if you’re going to Macau in the near future, Man Ho Chinese restaurant at the JW Marriott Macau has a guest chef from December 8-13. Wilson Chun, Chinese executive chef from the Renaissance Shanghai Caohejing Hotel, will be making dishes such as galangal and sesame roasted chicken; Singapore chilli crab; braised pork ribs with onion; and deep-fried crispy butter floss crab.
