Favourite restaurants of Anita Ma, general manager of Sopexa Hong Kong
French, steaks, dim sum and Chiu Chow cuisine among her culinary picks
I grew up in a family that ran restaurants so I was always surrounded by food. I love to cook, I enjoy all kinds of food and I like to think I am adventurous, but I like seafood the most. Every morning I make breakfast and packed lunches for my kids to spend time with them.
With the nature of my job, I visit a lot of restaurants. Le Café Winebeast (15 McGregor Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2479 6833) is one place I like a lot. It’s casual, the food is really good and the people are very passionate about what they do. And they have a wide range of wine.
For Chinese, I love a very local, small place Lin & Chuen Kitchen (8 Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, Shau Kei Wan, tel: 2567 0877) with very homestyle cooking and fresh seafood. The soy chicken is famous too. It’s a place I would take someone visiting for traditional Chinese flavours.
Tung Po (2/F Java Road Municipal Services Building, 99 Java Road, North Point, tel: 2880 5224) is also fun.
A bit more fancy with a nice view is One Harbour R oad (7/F Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, 1 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, tel: 2584 7722).
My parents came from Chiu Chow. We do cook some at home but not the really complicated dishes. Shung Hing (29 Queen’s Road West, Sheung Wan, tel: 2854 4557) is one place I like.
In Kennedy Town, there is Tak Kee (3 Belcher’s Street, tel: 2819 5568) which is also very good but the setting is very local.
Mysecret little place for a drink is Le Quinze Vins (9 Swatow Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2673 7636). But sometimes we’ll go at 3pm and it’s full already. They have a lot of exclusive wines.
