Seasons by Olivier E. has been open for almost two years and it can still be hard to get a reservation here at short notice. It can also be hard to get a table for the afternoon tea, and probably even more so now that the Michelin-starred restaurant recently revamped its tea set. We managed to get a chance to try it earlier this week at a media tasting.

Savouries include mini-burger, duck foie gras cream egg, lobster jelly, prawn toast and croque monsieur.

Savouries are presented on a three-tier stand, while sweets are laid out in a wooden box. In the savoury selection, we really liked the mini-burger with thin slices of beef, with a touch of mustard and some greens, and the small square croque monsieur is a quick bite. There’s also a mini prawn toast and lobster jelly with avocado, and an egg stuffed with duck foie gras for a mouthful of decadence.

As for the sweets, the scones, both plain and with raisins ooze with buttery goodness. They are made even better by the clotted cream and house-made jam. Luckily they are small enough that there’s room for the other desserts. Matcha green tea mousse is light, and same goes for the delicate chestnut and meringue tart.

Chocolate fiends will enjoy the black chocolate rocher, and the coffee jelly and chocolate ganache.

All good things come to an end and after that it’s time to hit the gym…
