First impressions of The Chop House, Tsim Sha Tsui – tasty burger, shakes you can spike
After a mojito that was more ice than drink, and a pedestrian burrata, our meal got better. Crispy pork belly was everything you could ask for from the dish, and the signature burger was a treat, with perfect French fries
The Chop House recently expanded from Causeway Bay to the Miramar Shopping Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. While the original branch (in Soundwill Plaza II – Midtown) is bright and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows and red highlights, its Kowloon counterpart is moodier, with dim lighting and a blue-green palette.
Our meal began with an underwhelming burrata (HK$98). The soft cheese should have been creamy, but wasn’t, making the rest of the dish – sliced tomatoes with basil pesto – pedestrian.
BBC – barbecue beef, bacon
and cheddar – burger (HK$160, below) featured a thick, juicy, half-pound beef patty that was cooked medium as requested. It was quite a mouthful, though we enjoyed each bite. The perfectly prepared French fries, were crisp and not overseasoned.
There are some decadent desserts on offer, and we tried the chocolate fudge cake (HK$70). It was dense, moist and chocolatey, and great with vanilla ice cream.
