Restaurant review: Honeymoon Dessert de Avenue, Causeway Bay – savoury shortcomings
Hong Kong’s popular Honeymoon Dessert branches out again, this time serving up savoury dishes, although there is a honey-topped pizza
There are six kinds of grilled corn on offer. We liked the traditional Mexican grilled corn (HK$58). Roasted with cheese and spices then slathered with mayonnaise, it was slightly sweet and spicy. Less successful was the durian and cheese grilled corn (HK$58), which was too sweet and heavy.
Spaghetti with ox cheek braised in red wine sauce (HK$88) was made with Australian ox cheek and a delicious sauce with tomato, red wine and carrots. Spaghetti with smoked salmon and seafood in cream sauce (HK$88) was too dry and needed more sauce. Both pasta dishes seemed expensive as the portions were small.
In short, the new savoury venture of Honeymoon Dessert does not live up to the sweet offerings beloved by locals for two decades.
