Newly opened Mirage in Wan Chai – beautiful and creative snacks and drinks
Waiting to check in at the Renaissance Harbour View? There’s a new bar in the lobby area offering a posh environment and food and drinks to match
Mirage at the Renaissance Harbour View is not a mirage – it’s a solid new bar and restaurant that’s been carved out of a part of the lobby on the first floor.
Gone is the tired dead space that used to be a seating area and in its place is a slick island bar that rises 7.6 metres to the ceiling with plants in the shelves.
In addition to the bar there is an area for guests to have drinks and food. The deep seats by the window are comfortable, but we needed extra cushions to prop us up.
It’s a relaxing spot and the dishes are a treat. They come in small portions and there are many to choose from.
We ordered a few dishes with drinks, but the food arrived first.
Next came the white and green asparagus (HK$98), a few stalks of each chopped into manageable pieces that came with wild mushroom ragout and garlic chips.
We liked the meatiness of the lamb cutlets that were cooked slightly past our requested medium rare, and which were seasoned with Madagascar salt and spices (HK$148). However, the accompanying aubergine purée was bland.
For dessert, the avocado nougat parfait (HK$88) sounded intriguing. On the plate were two small pistachio-coloured popsicles, although they weren’t cold. The dessert wasn’t too sweet, and had a slightly creaminess from the avocado and crunchiness from the crushed nuts. It came with apricots that were poached in honey.
