The interior of Brickhouse.

Favourite Hong Kong restaurants of Jo Dixon, founder of Panama hat brand, Bella Blu

From Mexican to Spanish, from Japanese to China’s cuisines, health food to seafood and a couple of opulent Sunday buffets, Dixon has an eclectic taste

Food is a pleasure, preferably a shared one. I love fun experiences with family and friends, large tables with sharing plates, loud conversation and general hilarity. I’m not afraid to try new experiences and unusual food. When in Rome, you know.

Having two young boys I do like to balance things out and try to keep a healthy approach during the week as well as trying new things.

“Fab Mexican food” at The Brickhouse.
In Central, I enjoy Brickhouse (20 D’Aguilar Street, Central, tel: 2810 0560), a hidden noisy gem with grunge decor, staff with attitude, great margaritas and fab Mexican food. I especially love the Mexican-style street corn and ceviche. Yum.
Interior of 22 Ships.
22 Ships (22 Ship Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2555 0722) has eclectic and delicious tapas, great ambience and staff. I especially love the broad beans, peas, Serrano ham and goat’s curd dish, and the mini foie gras burgers and jamon, manchego and truffle toaster with quail egg – so bad but so good!
Casa (1 Sai Kung Hoi Pong Square, Sai Kung, tel: 5594 0007) has delicious food, great staff and a relaxed atmosphere. They have a cauliflower dish that I love.
Grilled tuna steak with wafu sauce and watercress at Zuma.
Also, Zuma (5/F The Landmark, 15 Queen’s Road Central, tel: 3657 6388) is always so delicious. I love the high ceilings and the spacious feel; the staff are always great.
The interior of Hutong
We also have a few restaurants we love to visit with friends and family. Hutong (28/F, 1 Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3428 8342) is a unique dining experience with the Beijing-inspired décor and stunning dishes.
China Club (13/F-14/F, Old Bank of China Building, Bank Street, Central, tel: 2521 8888) is always fun, with evening performances, a convivial atmosphere, wonderful artwork and 1920s and ’30s Shanghai interiors.
The interior of Ho Lee Fook.
And Ho Lee Fook (1-5 Elgin Street, SoHo, tel: 2810 0860) is just cool, lively and fun.
Advocado, tomato, mint and garlic mayonnaise at Mana!.
For something casual, I like going to MANA! (92 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2851 1611) on weekdays. I love their wraps. Home Eat To Live (Nexxus Building, 77 Des Voeux Road Central, tel: 2777 4777) also has fabulous food.

On weekends, I might go to the seafood restaurants in Po Toi O or Sai Kung , and to Shek O Chinese & Thai (303 Shek O Village, tel: 2809 4426) after a hike. But I must confess I love brunch at Zuma and the W Hotel’s restaurant, Kitchen (6/F, 1 Austin Road West, West Kowloon, tel: 3717 2299) for a fancy Sunday affair.

Exterior of 121BC.
For a classy dinner, 121BC (42-44 Peel Street, SoHo, tel: 2395 0200) has simple delicious Italian fare with a gorgeous wine list and a great atmosphere. The staff will always look after you. It’s divine. For an even more special occasion, Aqua (29/F, 1 Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3427 2288) is stunning.
