Hong Kong chefs raise funds for Spain terror victims with ‘Dinner for Barcelona’ at La Paloma

Following the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils on August 17 that killed 14 people and injured at least 120, some chefs in Hong Kong are getting together to raise funds for victims with a special event called “A Dinner for Barcelona” on August 29.

Twelve Spanish chefs from restaurants in Hong Kong and the Philippines, and Hong Kong group the Spanish Chefs Association, will present a family-style eight-course tapas menu as well as two desserts at La Paloma in Sai Ying Pun for HK$400 per person, and an additional HK$200 for free-flow drinks.

The chefs include executive chef at Langham Hong Kong Pedro Samper, Jaime Nunez, head chef at Ammo, Ferran Tadeo, executive chef at Catalunya Hong Kong, and Alex Fargas, executive chef at FoFo by el Willy.

“The recent terrorist attacks on Barcelona and Cambrils have deeply saddened me,” says Fargas. “When I heard that my home country had been brutally attacked, I was immensely worried about my family, friends and the people living in those areas. Through this charity dinner, I hope that we will be able to do our part to support and bring some relief to the victims and their families. Through a medium that I love so much, I hope to use food to unite people for this important cause.”

On the menu are some tempting dishes, such as traditional Catalan cod fritters; “Callos” pork stew with chickpeas, ham and chorizo; tomato salad with anchovies and fresh cheese, and vanilla cream with “ninyoyakis”, passion fruit and cardamom.
