New restaurants in Hong Kong: Vietnamese pho lovers, head to Sheung Wan’s Pho Woo Viet for generous servings of beef
- The monster beef pho, for US$11, was a crowd pleaser, filled with raw beef, skirt steak, rib finger, tendons, beef balls and tripe
- Try the avocado smoothie to end the meal
If you’re craving a bowl of pho, head over to Pho Woo Viet, a recent addition to the Sheung Wan dining scene.
It’s a simply decorated space, with a colourful cartoon painting of Vietnamese streets brightening the venue. We sat by the window overlooking busy Jervois Street.
The menu includes Vietnamese noodles, sandwiches and snacks, with a selection of drinks. The waiters served our meal promptly.
We loved the monster beef pho (HK$88). The noodles were silky, and we couldn’t get enough of the clear soup. There was a good variety of beef cuts in the bowl of noodles – raw beef, skirt steak, rib finger, tendons, beef balls and tripe. The raw beef and rib fingers were tender, and we also enjoyed the tendons which seemed to melt in our mouths.
The banh mi sandwich with egg (HK$45) came cut into two pieces and wrapped in paper. The baguette was crusty and held an interesting mix of pickled vegetables, Vietnamese ham, a fried egg and sauce.
