New restaurants in Hong Kong: Indian Curry Corner in Jordan – friendly service, but dishes lacked complexity
- A curry at the restaurant near the West Kowloon High-Speed Railway Station will only set you back around US$6 at dinner time
- The chicken curry was tender but the yellow sauce lacked the strong fragrance it needed
Near the busy transport hub of Hong Kong’s West Kowloon High-Speed Railway Station is Indian Curry Corner, a new restaurant serving up reasonably priced Indian dishes.
While the lunch sets offer good deals, some of the more interesting dishes are only available at night, which is when we visited. The somewhat basic interior is enlivened by small potted plants on the tables. The staff were friendly and the food was served quickly.
Our first choice was a signature chicken curry (HK$58). The pieces of boneless chicken were tender, but the yellow curry sauce lacked the strong fragrance and complexity of different spices that good curries should have.
We did enjoy the garlic nan (HK$22) that we ordered to eat with the curry; the soft flat bread absorbed the sauce.
Palak paneer (HK$54) – cottage cheese cubes cooked in spinach gravy – was really creamy, but a little bit salty. We tried a different bread with this one – whole wheat roti (HK$12), which was chewy, if a bit dry.
The medium spicy lamb biryani (HK$64) consisted of lamb chunks and basmati rice mixed with a variety of Indian herbs and spices. The lamb was soft but the rice was hard and tough, and the whole dish was slightly watery.
