Mirazur in Menton, France, came in at number one on the new World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, which was announced on Tuesday in a ceremony at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore – the first time in its 18-year history that the international awards event has been held in Asia.

Taking the number two spot was Noma in Copenhagen, while coming in third was Asador Extebarri in Axtondo, Spain.

In the press conference following the ceremony at the Marina Bay Sands grand ballroom, Mirazur chef Mauro Colagreco said: “I feel incredible. I don't have words to express my happiness. It’s so special for my team and all the hard work. Mirazur is a family, we live there.”

He added: “This year Michelin gave us three stars – the first time a non-French chef at a restaurant in France was given the top award. And this is the first time in the history of World’s 50 Best that a French restaurant has come in at number one.”
