- The world’s most expensive ice cream is being sold for around US$6,300 per serving in Japan, and took more than a year and a half to develop
- Created by Japanese ice cream brand Cellato, the dessert is made with luxury ingredients such as Alba white truffle, Parmigiano Reggiano and edible gold leaf
The world’s most expensive ice cream is being sold for around 873,400 Japanese yen, or US$6,300, per serving.
The dessert, called byakuya, has set a Guinness World Record because of its eye-watering price tag.
According to the Guinness World Records blog post, Cellato wanted to include both European and Japanese ingredients in the ice cream, so it turned to a chef known for fusion cuisine for help.
“It took us over 1.5 years to develop, with a lot of trials and errors to get the taste right,” a Cellato company representative said. “Achieving a Guinness World Records title made the effort all worth it.”
A representative for Cellato did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Scoopi Cafe in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, previously served what was considered to be the most expensive ice cream in the world.
