For many coffee lovers, the arrival of cool autumn weather means a transition from icy lattes to hot mugs.
Fortunately there are plenty of new cafes to try out in Hong Kong this November, each with its own signature offerings, from coffee-based drinks to sweet treats.
1. Tozzo
This stylish Italian dessert cafe is the vision of Fabio Bardi, the award-winning pastry chef of one-Michelin-star Estro.

It takes over the space at Tai Kwun’s JC Contemporary art gallery that used to house Between Coffee.
The house specials are gelato and maritozzo, a fluffy Roman-style brioche bun filled with light whipped cream. Bardi infuses the filling with flavourings from maple sugar to purple sweet potato. Complement your sweet treats with a strong coffee.

2. Minamoto Coffee
Get a new pair of kicks while you sip an espresso tonic at this Japanese-style cafe on Mong Kok’s Fa Yuen Street – also known as Sneaker Street.
The minimalist space places a focus on lifestyle gear, with Polaroid cameras, tote bags and shoes for sale. The coffee menu is kept concise and includes several non-coffee options such as hot chocolate, hojicha and matcha lattes.

3. Common Man Coffee Roasters
This roastery-cafe originating in Singapore has pitched up over two floors of the K11 Art Mall, in Tsim Sha Tsui.
In the interest of freshness, beans are roasted in the Lion City and flown to Hong Kong each week, and the green marble barista bar offers a space where coffee nerds can talk tasting notes.
The coffee brand is also known for its all-day dining offerings, with the K11 Art Mall branch offering several Hong Kong-exclusive dishes such as king prawn laksa mac and cheese, spicy beef angel hair pasta and salted egg yolk cruffins.

4. Koolbeanz
Vinyl is having a resurgence, and the owners of this new cafe in Sheung Wan are keen to share their space with record lovers who also love coffee.
It is a small venture big on details, from the vinyl-shaped coasters to the floating shelves on which the record sleeves are displayed.
The counter seating next to the espresso machine is the perfect place to perch and talk to the baristas and fellow music lovers.

5. Sinbad Coffee Roasters
After a long hiatus, small-batch coffee roasters Sinbad is back, and is now brewing in Happy Valley.
The new branch has windows that open out onto the street for welcoming vibes. Stop by for a coffee, or purchase its roasted beans for brewing at home.
