It is officially the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens weekend, which means event domination in headlines, happy hours and MTR carriages.
But if the frenzy is not your cup of tea, don’t worry. There is always something else in this city.
From a late-night dim sum rave in a century-old teahouse to a pickleball social in West Kowloon and sustainable fashion swaps, there is plenty to do that has nothing to do with the Sevens.
Here are five things to check out this weekend.
1. Dim Sum Rave

On Saturday, April 18, Hong Kong’s beloved century-old teahouse, Lin Heung Lau, is going out with a bang before it relocates from its historic Central location.
As regular service winds down, a rave will take over the traditional yum cha spot from 10pm to 2am. Blending the city’s nightlife with its historic roots, Amsterdam DJ Rose Ringed will headline live sets by both international and local artists, and the dress code calls for old Hong Kong attire, whether that be floral shirts, silk sets, cheongsams or Tang suits.
The rave is being organised by RaveDao, marking one of the final public gatherings in the original teahouse before it relocates to nearby Sheung Wan.
Lin Heung Lau, which first opened in Hong Kong in 1926 and survived near-closure in 2019, will move to Tung Ning Building on Des Voeux Road Central, a short five-minute walk away.

2. Top Swop x Coffee Rave

A thrift-and-coffee rave is set to take over the Terrible Baby terrace at the Eaton HK hotel on April 18 and 19 in collaboration with Top Swop, which hosts regular events promoting sustainable, circular fashion exchanges.
As usual, attendees are encouraged to bring up to 10 articles of clean, gently used clothing or accessories and exchange them for credits or other items. This time, there will also be speciality coffee tastings, live brewing stations and possibly low-caffeine or coffee-based mocktails – specifically Lyre’s no-alcohol espresso martinis. There will also be live curated music sets from local DJs.
Tickets are available online for HK$85 (US$11) or HK$100 at the door. No purchase is required to take part in the swap, though space is limited.

3. Luah Pickleball Smash Social

On April 18, jewellery brand Luah will host a pickleball social at the Stackd pop-up at West Kowloon. Both beginners and experienced players are welcome.
The schedule begins with a 10-minute check-in window, followed by a 30-minute coaching introductory session led by professional trainers from Stackd. There will be two hours of rotating pickleball matches across two courts, allowing attendees to play with different partners throughout the morning.
Each ticket, priced at HK$100 – plus a HK$6 booking fee – includes a HK$250 Luah gift card, a raffle entry for a chance to win Luah jewellery, access to Nomi’s zero-sugar electrolyte refreshments and a postgame treat.

4. Filter: Reconstructing the Unseen
April 18 is the last day to see the first overseas solo exhibition by emerging Japanese artist Marino Funahashi at JPS Gallery in Central.
Titled “Filter: Reconstructing the Unseen”, the exhibition is the artist’s exploration of memory, time and the natural world in an era saturated with digital noise. At its core is the idea of filtration: the subtle reconstruction of experiences and impressions that have slipped from view, and Funahashi draws on how lived experiences are reshaped over time.
A main subject is nature, but rather than depicting it directly, she seeks to restore a more primal state of perception, where sensations are felt before they are named, and layers of colour and texture echo the way memories layer, blur and reorganise.

5. A Foggy Tale


In the historical drama A Foggy Tale, which won the best narrative film and best original screenplay gongs at the 2025 Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan, writer-director Chen Yu-hsun tells the emotional stories of everyday individuals who fight tirelessly to survive against a backdrop of intense political and social turbulence.
Set in 1950s Taiwan during the early years of the White Terror – a time of rampant political persecution under Kuomintang rule – A Foggy Tale follows Yue (Caitlin Fang Yu-ting, American Girl), a young girl from the rural region of Chiayi in the island’s southwest, who attempts to reclaim her executed brother’s remains in Taipei.
During Yue’s journey, she encounters Chao Kung-tao (Hong Kong actor Will Or Wai-lam), a rickshaw driver and former soldier, and reconnects with her long-lost sister Hsia, a child bride turned showgirl played by singer-songwriter Joanne Tang Yu-chi, better known by her stage name 9m88.
