It is the middle of the Fifa World Cup 2026 tournament, and Hongkongers are brimming with excitement about the remaining games. The time differences this year are brutal, since the matches are held across the United States, Mexico and Canada, but loyal fans remain determined to catch as many games as they can.
The 2026 edition is the biggest yet, having expanded to 104 matches, 48 teams and three host countries. And although Hong Kong failed to qualify for the games, World Cup fervour is alive and well in the city.

Plenty of local bars, shopping centres and eateries are going all out, with many adjusting their hours to accommodate early morning games and offering special deals during the tournament.

Hong Kong Island’s nightlife neighbourhood is turning the streets into a gigantic hub for local and international fans to gather. The area is showing matches on big screens in the streets, and many venues are altering their hours to accommodate the World Cup schedule.

The football festivities, which kicked off on June 11, are divided into two acts. Until July 17, the streets’ watch parties include photography installations and different activities to get the crowds excited.

From July 18, the grand finale will begin. Food and drink vendors will set up shop, live performances will be held on the streets, and pedestrian areas will morph into gigantic zones for fans.
