iPadOS first look: how Apple’s new tablet OS will boost iPad user experience
- Apple revealed at its recent conference that it will give iPads their own distinct OS with new features designed to boost productivity
- iPadOS includes a new storage system that lets users create folders, support for external storage and better multitasking functions

For me, Apple’s iPad Pro is great at many things.
It is the best tablet for media consumption; it has the best stylus support outside professional-grade illustration pads; it has a larger and better app ecosystem than tablets running Windows or Android; and it has more raw computing power than most actual computers, including Apple’s own Macs.
But what the iPad isn’t is a suitable computer replacement for office productivity work, something that is all too apparent during the editorial process for this article.
For example, the photos illustrating this piece are from Apple’s official media site, but I couldn’t directly download the original zipped files to my iPad Pro because the device lacks a download manager and the ability to store files locally.

Instead, I had to send the photos to my Android smartphone, which has a download and storage system akin to computers, and unzipped them there.
