Realme X2 Pro review: best phone screen around and amazing value, with spec sheet to rival top Samsung and LG phones
- The X2 Pro by Oppo sub-brand Realme has a mesmerising 90Hz display that, in this reviewer’s opinion, is the best available on the market right now
- Full of top-of-the-line components, the phone offers value far beyond its price tag and is bound to set jaws dropping
Last May, Chinese phone brand Oppo launched a sub-brand, Realme, in their attempt to take on the growing Indian market. It has, in less than a year and a half, become one of the top five brands in the country. Now, Realme has its eyes on a bigger market: the world.
The company has launched a flagship model named the X2 Pro in Europe and its native China, and we think its superb value proposition alone is guaranteed to turn the heads of smartphone users, from Shanghai to Berlin.
Design and hardware
The bulk of the Realme X2 Pro’s hardware is almost identical to the OnePlus 7T and the Oppo Reno Ace. All three brands have the same parent company, so they have the same display, the same notch, the same in-hand feel and the same charging technology. It’s basically another 2019 glass sandwich Chinese phone, but without the extra bells and whistles of pricier handsets – like a waterfall screen or 5G connectivity.
The hardware, whether it’s the construction or in-hand feel, is excellent. The display is a 6.5-inch OLED panel that refreshes at 90Hz, first introduced in the OnePlus 7 Pro, and is visually mesmerising to use. A 90Hz refresh rate means the screen refreshes frames 90 times a second – 1.5 times faster than the traditional 60Hz screens used in everything from iPhones to Dell computer monitors. This makes animations on the Realme X2 Pro’s 90Hz panel appear more fluid.
