Breathe, meditate, reflect: seven wellness events to help ease strain of Hong Kong protests
- As social unrest continues to rock the city and its inhabitants become more despondent, here are a selection of activities that will help release tension
- From laughing to chanting, there are plenty of ways to raise your spirits

Stress levels are rising in Hong Kong as social unrest continues to rock the city, but those looking for relief can join dozens of activities ahead of the holiday season. Organisers aim to get Hongkongers moving, to release tension, to volunteer to help others, or to simply take time to relax and unwind.
All you need is love
The one-day Be Love Festival will see about 50 wellness industry players gather to inject more positive energy into the city. It will offer art, sound and movement-based sessions to encourage attendees to express themselves, experience joy and release pent-up negative emotions.
The line-up includes a laughing yoga session with Veena Dansinghani, the Afritude Kaze band playing African drums, a dance class with Devi Novianti, and a mandala-making session using rocks and other natural materials.
“We’re not here to make a political statement,” says Yvonne Yjemani Li, an energy healer and festival organiser. “We’re here to say: here’s a safe place where we honour everyone’s views, and we can come together to embody this co-creation and collaborative energy, and despite everything, we have much love to share … so in future you can share it with others.”
