DOCTOR knows best
Cosmeceuticals medics get in on the act to develop their own hi-tech skincare lines, writes Karen Fong
Skincare brands have long looked to science to create face creams and serums packed with powerful ingredients designed to slow the signs of ageing. But who knows better what's good for your skin than a doctor?
Realising this, a number of top dermatologists, plastic surgeons and research scientists have joined the ranks with their own hi-tech skincare lines.
Dermatologist and author Dr Nicholas Perricone created Perricone MD based on research into the ageing effects of inflammation. The brand's Acyl-Glutathione is designed to deliver the powerful antioxidant glutathione into the skin, reducing fragility and thinness while improving moisture absorption.
Hong Kong's Dr Kendrick combats ageing with Dorissiderm's Lipid Prescription, an intensely moisturising serum designed to increase the fatty oils necessary to keep skin looking plump and youthful.
Harnessing the power of vitamin A (retinyl palmitate), South African cosmetic surgeon Dr Des Fernandes created Environ's AVST line, which uses vitamin A to revitalise the skin and reduce fine lines. It also features strong antioxidants such as vitamins E and C and
beta-carotene.
