It has been a long and cold winter, but temperatures will soon start to creep up. However, given the packed schedule that the K-drama industry has in store for March, there will still be plenty of reasons to stay indoors.
1. The Potato Lab
Lead cast: Lee Sun-bin, Kang Tae-oh
Office romance gets an earthy twist in The Potato Lab, a series about a serious researcher at an out-of-the-way potato research centre and the new director who takes over.


Lee Sun-bin (Boyhood) is Kim Mi-gyeong, who has been working for 12 years to develop her own strain of potatoes.
Kang Tae-oh, who has not been seen on screen since his beloved turn in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, plays the dapper So Baek-ho, who, despite his brilliant smile and perfect appearance, struggles to make friends. (tvN/Netflix, March 1)
2. Riding Life
Lead cast: Jeon Hye-jin, Jo Min-soo


Jeon Hye-jin (Not Others) and Jo Min-soo (The Cursed) lead the drama Riding Life, which explores the complicated world of schooling in Daechi-dong, a neighbourhood in Gangnam, Seoul, that is infamous for its competitive private academies.
Jeon is single mother Lee Jung-eun, who tries to steer her seven-year-old daughter’s education in Daechi-dong. To do so, she needs the help of her mother, Yoon Ji-a (Jo), who was also a single mother.
Riding Life is the latest series from director Kim Cheol-kyu (Celebrity, Flower of Evil). (ENA, March 3)
3. I Am a Running Mate
Lead cast: Yoon Hyun-soo, Lee Jung-sic, Choi Woo-sung


Yoon Hyun-soo plays Se-hoon, a student with a perfect track record who winds up being courted by two of the most popular boys in school, who both want him to be their running mate in the coming student council election.
Blending comedy, drama and the pressure cooker environment of high school, this series is written and directed by Han Jin-won, the Oscar-winning co-writer of Parasite.
I Am a Running Mate’s first few episodes premiered to positive reviews at the Busan International Film Festival in 2023. (TVing, March 6)
4. When Life Gives You Tangerines volume 1
Lead cast: IU, Park Bo-gum, Moon So-ri, Park Hae-joon


Several K-drama heavy hitters join forces for the highly anticipated drama When Life Gives You Tangerines. IU (My Mister) and Park Bo-gum (Record of Youth) play Jeju island youths Ae-sun, a rebellious spirit who dreams of being a poet, and Gwan-sik, a reserved boy who quietly loves her.
Moon So-ri (Queenmaker) and Park Hae-joon (The World of the Married) play the adult versions of the characters in this drama from director Kim Won-seok (My Mister) and writer Lim Sang-choon (When the Camellia Blooms).
Netflix is debuting the first volume of this 16-episode in March. (Netflix, March 7)
5. The Art of Negotiation
Lead cast: Lee Je-hoon, Kim Dae-myung, Sung Dong-il


Taxi Driver lead actor Lee Je-hoon sports a shock of grey hair in the business world drama-thriller The Art of Negotiation.
He plays Yoon Joo-no, a specialist in mergers and acquisitions who is known far and wide as an expert negotiator.
This series focuses on Joo-no and his team, including lawyer Oh Soon-yung (Kim Dae-myung, Hospital Playlist). (JTBC, March 8)
6. Hyper Knife
Lead cast: Sul Kyung-gu, Park Eun-bin


Extraordinary Attorney Woo star Park Eun-bin puts on a very different face in the medical thriller Hyper Knife, in which she stars alongside Korean screen veteran Sul Kyung-gu (The Whirlwind).
Sul plays Choi Deok-hui, the world’s top neurosurgeon. Years earlier, he had a particularly gifted student named Jung Se-ok (Park), but he always felt that there was some thing off about her until one day he kicked her off his team.
Se-ok now works as a doctor in the shadows performing illegal operations. She finally comes face to face once more with the mentor who kicked her to the kerb. (Disney+, March 19)
7. Villains Everywhere
Lead cast: Oh Na-ra, So Yoo-jin


Oh Na-ra (Alchemy of Souls) and So Yoo-jin (My Dearest) headline the family comedy Villains Everywhere as sisters Oh Na-ra and Oh Yoo-jin.
Na-ra experienced dazzling romance in her youth when she was a flight attendant, but now she is a housewife, a mother to two children and married to an old-fashioned husband.
Her younger sister Yoo-jin is a cookery-class instructor, also married with two children. (KBS2, March 19)
8. Divorce Insurance
Lead cast: Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-bin, Lee Kwang-soo, Lee Da-hee


Following A Shop for Killers, Lee Dong-wook switches to comedy for the coming series Divorce Insurance.
From director Lee Won-suk, known for cult big-screen comedies such as How to Use Guys with Secret Tips and Killing Romance, the series follows the ups and downs of a product development team at an insurance company.
Lee is No Gi-jun, who pioneers the idea of divorce insurance, a subject he has a lot of experience in thanks to the three divorces he has gone through.
His teammates are played by Lee Joo-bin (Queen of Tears), Lee Kwang-soo (No Way Out: The Roulette) and Lee Da-hee (Island). (tvN/Amazon Prime, March 31)
