Fantasy and comedy are the names of the game in this week’s announcements about casting for Korean drama series, for roles which include time-travelling judges and special forces soldiers who use their skills for their neighbourhood watch. There is also a remake of a Japanese series.

1. Siren

Squid Game and Little Women actor Wi Ha-joon and Park Min-young of Forecasting Love and Weather have been offered the leading roles in the coming SBS drama Siren, a remake of the Japanese series Ice World from 1999, which starred Yutaka Takenouchi and Nanako Matsushima.

Siren follows an auditor at Ross Insurance who becomes embroiled in a murder mystery involving a female teacher.

The Korean title refers to humanlike females from Greek mythology, who would lure unsuspecting male sailors with their singing to crash their ships onto rocky shores.

This is the third coming series to feature Wi. The actor will next be seen in Squid Game season 3 in June. Last year he appeared in The Midnight Romance in Hagwon as well as two Netflix sequel series, the second seasons of Gyeongseong Creature and Squid Game.

Last year, Park was seen in the hit fantasy office romcom Marry My Husband.
Directing the series will be So Jae-hyun, who recently directed the shows The Player 2: Master of Swindlers and The Witch’s Diner.

2. UDT: Our Neighbourhood Task Force

Eight years after playing fellow gangsters in The Outlaws, the film that launched Ma Dong-seok’s The Roundup franchise, actors Yoon Kye-sang and Jin Seon-kyu are reportedly teaming up once more for the action-comedy series UDT: Our Neighborhood Task Force for the cable channel ENA.
