A pair of colonial-era dramas and a Jeju-set noir are among the enticing new K-drama projects getting ready to kick off production.
Read on for the latest casting news.
1. 100 Days of Lies
Park Jin-young, the member of K-pop band GOT7 recently seen opposite Park Bo-young in Our Unwritten Seoul, has been linked with the historical drama 100 Days of Lies.
Should his casting be confirmed, he will join previously announced actors Kim Yoo-jung (My Demon) and Kim Hyun-joo (Hellbound).

The story is set in Gyeongseong – the name for Seoul during Korea’s period as a Japanese colony (1910-1945) – and follows a talented pickpocket who joins forces with independence fighters before infiltrating the Japanese Government-General under an assumed identity as a spy.
Handling the directing reins will be Yoo In-sik, well known for the hit dramas Dr. Romantic and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Penning the script is Ryu Bo-ri (Do You Like Brahms?).
Park has been building his image as an actor in recent years, having appeared in shows such as The Devil’s Judge and Yumi’s Cells. He also appeared in the film Hi-Five this year.
Kim Yoo-jung had an extended cameo in Chicken Nugget last year and will soon lead the drama Dear X.

Meanwhile, Kim Hyun-joo starred in The Bequeathed and also reprised her role in Hellbound season 2.
2. Our Universe
Roh Jeong-eui (Crushology 101) and Bae In-hyuk (Check-in Hanyang) have been confirmed to lead the coming TvN drama Our Universe.
This romantic drama will tell the story of in-laws who are forced to put their differences aside when they are entrusted with the care of their infant nephew following the death of his parents.

Roh will play jobseeker Woo Hyun-jin, who wants nothing more than an ordinary life, a dream that grows further out of reach when she is faced with the reality of raising her nephew.
Roh’s profile has been rising quickly, thanks to roles in the shows Hierarchy and The Witch, as well as the film Badland Hunters.
Bae plays Sun Tae-hyung, an assistant photographer who masks a hidden pain under his free-spirited appearance.

The actor’s other recent roles include the film Ditto and period dramas including Under the Queen’s Umbrella and The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract.
The series is aiming for a 2026 release.
3. Whale Star
Moon Ga-young, currently on screens in the legal drama Law and the City alongside Lee Jong-suk, has been approached for Whale Star, a series based on a webtoon.

Also fielding an offer to appear in the series is Parasite actor Choi Woo-shik.
Moon is considering appearing as Heo Soo-ah, a servant working for a pro-Japanese family during the Japanese colonial era.
Choi has been offered the part of Kang Ui-hyun, a man from a wealthy family who goes to study in Japan, but after witnessing the massacre of Koreans during the Great Kanto Earthquake, he decides to join the Korean independence movement.
Following an incident that causes Soo-ah to lose her voice, she begins to develop a bond with Ui-hyun.

Whale Star, which is expected to be produced on a large budget, will be directed by Hur Jin-ho, the veteran filmmaker behind celebrated works such as Christmas in August, One Fine Spring Day and The Last Princess.
4. Goendang
Screen actors Han Suk-kyu and Go Doo-shim are circling the lead roles in the coming noir drama Goendang, which will be set against the backdrop of Jeju Island and directed by Choi Jeong-yeol, known for the Disney+ series Vigilante.
“Goendang” is a Jeju dialect term that refers to extended family. Plot details for the series have yet to be revealed.

Han, a screen icon who has been leading the Korean film industry since the 1990s in works such as Christmas in August and Shiri, has also become a small-screen name in the past decade, leading works including Dr. Romantic and last year’s acclaimed thriller Doubt.
He will next be seen in the JTBC mystery drama When the Day Breaks.
Go, a native of Jeju Island, recently appeared in the popular shows Twinkling Watermelon and The Atypical Family. She will soon be seen in the SBS series Sold Out Again Today.
Although nothing has been confirmed, Netflix is reportedly a strong contender to distribute the series.
