A hit American TV show gets a Korean reimagining with massive star wattage, while the latest Korean food K-drama and a highly anticipated webtoon both take shape in this week’s coverage of Korean small-screen casting news.

1. Solo Leveling

Han So-hee (My Name) has been approached to join the high-profile Netflix series Solo Leveling.

Byun Woo-seok has already been confirmed as the male lead of the series, which is based on a sensationally popular webtoon of the same name.

The story takes place in a world where special hunters protect the world from monsters.

Han has been offered the role of Cha Hae-in, the only female S-rank hunter in Korea. Byun will portray the lowly E-rank hunter Sung Jin-woo, who suddenly develops special monster-hunting powers.

After rising to fame in The World of the Married, Han has become a major name in K-dramas, leading shows such as Gyeongseong Creature.
She is set to visit this year’s Toronto International Film Festival with the heist film Project Y, in which she shares the screen with Jun Jong-seo. The film will have its Korean premiere later this month at the Busan International Film Festival.
