Korean actor Ji Chang-wook teams up with Disney+ for his third autumn thriller in a row with The Manipulated, a mile-a-minute action-revenge saga about an ordinary man who becomes the pawn of a diabolical mastermind.

The series follows Ji’s other recent Disney+ thrillers, the well-regarded gangland drama The Worst of Evil (2023) and the over-the-top crime thriller Gangnam B-Side (2024). Ji is no stranger to the material, having already headlined the 2017 film Fabricated City, on which this new show is based.

Ji plays Park Tae-joong, a kind and ordinary man who is working long shifts as a delivery driver while supporting the studies of his younger brother and setting up a new cafe with his friends and his girlfriend (a cameo by Taxi Driver’s Pyo Ye-jin).

While taking a quick rest stop one evening, Tae-joong finds a ringing phone in a nearby bush. He answers, and organises the phone’s return to its owner for a small reward. Strangely, the drop point is an emergency phone box in an out-of-the-way tunnel.
