A cross-cultural romance, a fantastical connection, a gripping historical drama and a crime-comedy-mystery are among the latest projects attracting Korea’s top acting talent.
Here’s the K-drama casting round-up for this week.
1. 1/24
Shin Hye-sun and Na In-woo have been approached to appear in a new romantic comedy together. They are mulling offers to appear in 1/24, a Netflix original series based on the webtoon An Hour of Romance.
The story follows a male tennis ace and a female reality show producer, both harbouring emotional scars, who experience a fantastical event that sees them swap bodies for one hour each day. While navigating this phenomenon, the pair begin to learn about one another, eventually falling in love.

Known for the hit period drama Mr. Queen, Shin recently starred in Welcome to Samdal-ri and Dear Hyeri. She has two coming shows: the Netflix drama The Art of Sarah alongside Lee Joon-hyuk, and the tvN series Secret Audit with Gong Myung.
Shin and Na have worked together before, as Na also appeared in Mr. Queen when he was an emerging actor. He has since become a leading star, known for shows like Jinxed at First and Marry My Husband.
Directing the show will be Kim Sang-hyub, known for the previous hit webtoon adaptation True Beauty and who most recently worked on Melancholia.
2. Merry Berry Love
Currently on screens in The Manipulated, Ji Chang-wook is set to appear in yet another Disney+ production, although this new project will mark a departure from the thrillers he has been making with the House of Mouse.

Merry Berry Love is a bright romantic comedy that will be co-produced by Korea’s CJ ENM and Japan’s Nippon TV, and will see Ji team up with rising Japanese actress Mio Imada.
Set on a remote island, the series will follow Korean spatial designer Lee Yoo-bin (played by Ji) and Japanese strawberry farmer Karin Shirahama (Imada).
In addition to Merry Berry Love, Ji is also set to join forces with Jun Ji-hyun for the high-profile fantasy romantic comedy Human X Gumiho. First, Ji will appear in the Netflix drama Scandals alongside Son Ye-jin and Nana.

Imada is known for the Tokyo Revengers films and the recent drama Trillion Game in Japan.
Kim Soo-jung, known for the hit BL (boy love) drama Semantic Error, will direct, while The Divorce Insurance scribe Lee Jae-yoon will pen the script.
3. Munmu
Lee Hyun-wook (Mine), Jang Hyuk (Family: The Unbreakable Bond) and Kim Kang-woo (The Tyrant) are set to headline the period drama Munmu, which will follow the formation of the Unified Silla Dynasty (668-935).

Lee will play Kim Pom-min, the Silla Prince and strategist who would become known as Munmu, the unifier of the three kingdoms of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje. Jang will play Yeon Gaesomun, the dictatorial leader of Goguryeo, while Kim will appear as Pom-min’s father, the Silla king Kim Chun-chu.
Also tapped to appear are Park Sung-woong (Bloodhounds) as Silla general Kim Yu-sin; Jung Woong-in (Trigger) as a veiled political power within the Silla court; and Cho Sung-ha (Queen Mantis) as Goguryeo war hero Go Geon-mu, who returns from war to peacefully rule Goguryeo before a bloody coup.
The series will be brought to life by Kim Yeong-jo, who previously served as a co-director on the period epic Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth.
4. Fifties Professionals
Shin Ha-kyun (Beyond Evil), Oh Jung-se (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay) and Heo Sung-tae (Squid Game season 1) are confirmed as the leads of the coming MBC drama Fifties Professionals.

The series follows a trio of middle-aged men who, long after their glory days, were exiled to remote Yeongseon Island due to a mysterious incident. But then events conspire to bring them back into action as they band together to uncover the mystery that occurred 10 years ago.
Shin will play Jung Ho-myung, a former black agent at the National Intelligence Service who was framed for a crime he did not commit and now works as a chef in a Chinese restaurant.
Oh is slated to play North Korean special agent Bong Je-soon, who has lost his memory. Heo will feature as former gangland kingpin Kang Beom-ryong, who now runs a convenience store.
Fifties Professionals will be directed by Han Dong-hwa (Shadow Detective) and written by Jang Won-seob. The series is expected to launch in the first half of 2026.
