With the Lunar New Year holiday behind us, the K-drama industry is setting its sights on its next big hits. A wide array of stars is currently circling an exciting slate of series in development. There’s a Winning Chance Lee Je-hoon (Taxi Driver) and Ha Young (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call) have been set as the leads of the legal drama There’s a Winning Chance. Fresh off the third season of Taxi Driver, Lee will inject his wily personality into Kwon Baek. Once a star lawyer at a top firm, Baek was disbarred after becoming embroiled in a bribery scandal. He reinvents himself as the office manager of a new firm he establishes, working behind the scenes to take on seemingly unwinnable cases and find ingenious ways to win them. Ha will appear as Yeo Shim-hee, a rookie lawyer from a disadvantaged background who looked up to Baek before his fall from grace; she later joins his new firm as its lead lawyer. Crushed to see what her idol has become, she gradually begins to understand that he is usually one step ahead of everyone else. Ha will first be seen in the school-set action drama Teach You a Lesson, expected to air on Netflix in the second quarter of the year. There’s a Winning Chance is scheduled to hit screens in 2027. The Miracles of the Namiya General Store Ryu Seung-ryong (Moving), Kim Hye-yoon (Lovely Runner) and Lee Chae-min (Bon Appétit, Your Majesty) are all circling leading roles in The Miracles of the Namiya General Store, an adaptation of a novel of the same name by the bestselling Japanese author Keigo Higashino. Yum Jung-ah (SKY Castle) and Park Se-wan (Doona!) have also been linked to the series in supporting roles, while Moon Sang-min (Wedding Impossible) is reportedly in talks for a special appearance. The original novel focuses on three robbers who hide out in the closed Namiya General Store, the owner of which was once famous for answering advice letters. When a letter dated decades earlier mysteriously slips through the door, the thieves are suddenly connected to the past and the store’s old secrets. Last year, Ryu headlined both Low Life and The Dream Life of Mr Kim, and many fans are wondering if he will reprise his Moving role in season two, which begins filming this year. Kim is currently on screens in No Tail to Tell, while Lee most recently starred as a villain in Netflix’s Cashero. Currently in pre-production, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store will be adapted into 10 episodes. Paper Man Hospital Playlist star Jo Jung-suk has been linked to the new drama Paper Man. His agency, Jam Entertainment, confirmed that he is positively reviewing an offer to lead the series, which follows a colour-blind man who becomes embroiled in a counterfeit money conspiracy. Handling the director’s reins will be Lee Il-hyung, known for the hit prison film A Violent Prosecutor and last year’s twisty Netflix noir Karma. Jo is coming off a busy 2025, which saw him lead the horror comedy My Daughter Is a Zombie, the year’s most successful Korean film, and make special appearances in When the Stars Gossip, Weak Hero Class 2 and Resident Playbook, in which he reprised his role as Lee Ik-joon from Hospital Playlist. After that spurt of activity, he took a brief break to spend time with his family following the birth of his second child. His last leading role in a series was as the eponymous royal in the period drama Captivating the King. The Americans The touted Korean adaptation of the long-running US series The Americans – currently operating under the working title Koreans – is eyeing a new roster of talent for its leading cast. Lee Byung-hun (Squid Game) is still linked to the male leading role – though he is not yet officially confirmed – while Han Ji-min (Love Scout) has now been offered the leading female role originally considered by Jun Ji-hyun. Jun ultimately passed on the project owing to scheduling conflicts. Lee Hee-joon (Karma) has also been approached to star. BH Entertainment represents all three actors. Lee Byung-hun was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice. Han, who co-starred with Lee in Our Blues, will return to screens later this month in The Practical Guide to Love. Running for six seasons on FX from 2013 to 2018, the acclaimed show The Americans starred Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as two undercover KGB officers posing as an ordinary American family in the 1980s. The Korean remake, which will be directed by Ahn Gil-ho (The Glory), will presumably focus on North Korean agents posing as a South Korean family.
