Few countries have embraced artificial intelligence with as much enthusiasm and as few reservations as South Korea. Local citizens employ generative AI chatbots for a range of everyday tasks, while the government has fully adopted the technology.

The new romantic comedy Love Phobia – unrelated to the 2006 film of the same name – explores a near-future Korean society even more beholden to AI than it already is, in which dating apps have been supplanted by a hugely popular app that serves as an AI romantic partner for lovelorn city slickers.

The app in question is called It’s You, and its genius creator is the frosty Yun Bi-a, played by Yeonwoo, formerly a member of the K-pop girl group Momoland.

Bi-a has been dubbed the “One-Hour Woman” for her ruthless obsession with efficiency and her habit of frustrating investors and members of the press by always walking out of meetings and briefings before the hour is up.
