K-drama casting news about Lee Jong-suk, Song Kang, Kim So-hyun and more

In the latest round of casting announcements out of the K-drama industry, stars line up to lead connected dramas, characters swap emotions, and a pair of former screen lovers reunite for a new romance. Read on to find out more. Iseop’s Romance/A Casual Lie Lee Jong-suk (Big Mouth) and Lee Joon-hyuk (Love Scout) have been cast to headline separate dramas taking place in the same fictional universe, both drawing from web novels written by Kim Eon-hee. Recently seen in Law and the City and soon to return in The Remarried Empress, Lee Jong-suk will lead Iseop’s Romance as Tae I-seop, an heir to the TK Group chaebol (family-owned corporation) who is perfect at everything – save for romance. Also in the frame will be TK’s secret weapon Kang Min-kyeong, the as-yet-uncast female lead. In A Casual Lie, Lee Joon-hyuk will portray I-seop’s cousin Tae Jun-seop, another TK Group heir who gets swept up in a succession race. The female co-starring role is that of Yeon Woo-kyung, a copywriter who enters his life. Lee Joon-hyuk is currently basking in the success of the Chinese New Year hit The King’s Warden, which just crossed the 10-million-viewer mark at the Korean box office. The shows, which will intersect, will be filmed simultaneously later this year. White Scandal Love Alarm co-stars Kim So-hyun and Song Kang are mulling a reunion in a new series together after both were approached to star in White Scandal, adapted from a web novel of the same name. Kim is looking over the part of Ji Eun-seol, a former child actress who falls from grace after she takes the blame for a crime committed by her brother. Nevertheless, she holds on to her acting dream and continues to work as a road manager for other actors. Eun-seol then meets Dan Yi-hyuk – the part offered to Song – a central figure in the incident from her past. The pair enter into a contractual relationship, allowing Eun-seol to draw closer to buried secrets. Kim was most recently on screen with Park Bo-gum in Good Boy and will next be seen in the drama Love Expert this summer alongside Choo Young-woo. Song, who recently completed his military service, last appeared in My Demon and Sweet Home season 3. He is slated to star in this year’s coming-of-age drama Four Hands. Unshakeable Forties’ Romance Jung Kyung-ho has chosen his next project. The Hospital Playlist actor will lead Unshakeable Forties’ Romance, the story of a man and a woman who finally begin to experience the excitement of love in their forties. Jung will play Na Yi-jun, a star television news anchor to whom everything in life has come easily. But once he hits 40, he begins to experience andropause, a gradual decline in testosterone that causes physical and emotional changes. As a result, his self-esteem craters. The female co-starring role, which has yet to be cast, will be that of a struggling writer who used to be Yi-jun’s arch-nemesis. The pair are subsequently brought together to try to revive a show with flagging ratings. Jung, who is also known for Crash Course in Romance, is coming off a pair of legal dramas, having headlined 2025’s Oh My Ghost Clients and Pro Bono. Empathy Cells Kang Min-ah and Kim Myung-soo, also known as “L” of the K-pop band Infinite, have been tapped to lead the romantic comedy Empathy Cells. The show will follow the entanglement of a woman who rejects empathy and a man who finds himself overburdened by the feelings of others. Following a surreal phenomenon, the characters begin to share one another’s emotions. Kang will play Yoo Ji-an, a former hugely successful idol who now works as an actress. Thanks to her strict parents, she has always suppressed her feelings, but this lack of empathy eventually lands her in hot water. Kim will feature as Cha Eun-hwan, a psychological counsellor who begins to help Ji-an. Following their unexpected emotion transfer, Ji-an begins to reclaim her lost capacity to feel. A veteran of the screen, Kang is known for shows such as True Beauty and Beyond Evil. Kim recently appeared in the KBS2 dramas Perfect Family and Dare to Love Me. He is also scheduled to appear in the upcoming series Mirror Neurons.
