In this week’s K-drama production round-up, stars gravitate towards a corporate succession drama, an artificial intelligence-themed vigilante thriller, a heart-warming food-themed gangster comedy and a tale of long-term romance.

Another Romance Besides You
Seo Kang-joon and Ahn Eun-jin have officially been cast in the coming KBS2 drama Another Romance Besides You, as a couple who have been together for 10 years.
Despite their enduring loyalty, they are grappling with fading passion, which brings them to a crossroads – break up or get married.
Seo will play an assistant manager at a confectionery company whose great people skills hide a dark past behind a bright smile.
He is dating a filmmaker (Ahn) who was once celebrated for her university short films but has since struggled to make a project.

Seo last headlined the action-comedy Undercover High School and recently made a special appearance in this month’s Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand.
Known for Hospital Playlist, Ahn recently graduated to leading actress status, sharing top billing with Jang Ki-yong in Dynamite Kiss.
Another Romance Besides You is expected to debut during the second half of the year.
Buy King
Currently on screens in Climax and making a special appearance in Mad Concrete Dreams, Ju Ji-hoon may be adding another show to his dance card: he is reportedly considering the leading role in Buy King.
The Netflix show will depict a succession battle that tears apart the family behind a major Korean conglomerate, as several potential heirs attempt to wrest control of the business empire.

Ju is reviewing the role of Han Tae-jun, a man who will stop at nothing to achieve success – a character not unlike the ambitious prosecutor he is portraying in Climax.
The busy actor scored a major hit last year with the acclaimed Netflix medical drama The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, which has reportedly been renewed for two more seasons.
He is also expected to appear alongside Shin Min-a and Lee Jong-suk in the fantasy romance The Remarried Empress, a Disney+ Original.
Directing Buy King will be Jo Sung-hee, known for the films A Werewolf Boy and Space Sweepers.
Nightmare
Kim Nam-gil and Lee Yoo-mi have been cast in this sci-fi series for SBS. Nightmare takes place in a world where artificial intelligence is capable of entering human dreams – a technology employed by vigilantes to trap criminals in nightmares rather than traditional prisons.
Kim will play Kim Tae-yi, a detective who returns to his precinct after a long stint undercover. He teams up with a group of vigilantes employing this nightmare technology to catch villains. The group includes Jang Kyu-eun (Lee), another police officer in Tae-yi’s unit.

Following back-to-back Netflix thrillers last year with Karma and Trigger, Kim most recently turned up in a guest role in the opening episode of Mad Concrete Dreams.
He also has two films lined up: a leading part in the period drama Canvas of Blood and a cameo role in the heist thriller Three of a Kind.
Lee, who starred in the first season of Squid Game, is also coming off a pair of Netflix series, the domestic abuse-themed thriller As You Stood By and the romantic road trip drama Mr Plankton.
Hyupban
Last seen in the two-part thriller series Decoy, Jang Keun-suk is mulling over an opportunity to return to the screen in Hyupban.
The show is described as a heartwarming drama that follows the exploits of Ma Han-sang, a gangster and skilled cook.
After saving a college student, Han-sang winds up hiding out in the student’s home while he is on the run, and the unlikely pair begin to bond over shared meals.

Hyupban is based on the 2014 Japanese novel Otoko Meshi by Tetsuzo Fukuzawa, which was previously adapted into a 2016 J-drama of the same name starring Katsuhisa Namase as the gangster.
Handling the directorial reins will be Lee Min-woo, known for co-directing the classic high-school drama Boys Over Flowers and his solo directing work on shows such as Not Others.
Jang is known for classic K-dramas such as Lovers in Prague, Beethoven Virus and You’re Beautiful.
